Suu Kyi's Chin State visit to include Hakha

Having arrived in Kalaymyo, Sagian region on 06 January 2013, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, leader of the National League for Democracy (NLD) has extended her plan so as to make a visit to Hakha in Chin State in addition to Tedim and Falam townships.  

Pu Huat Chum, NLD Hakha District Chairman, said that she would arrive in the Chin capital for the second time on 8 January 2014, with the first in 2003.

He also said that she would be speaking at a public event to be held in the Vom Thu Maung football ground between 8am to 10am on Thursday.

The 68-year-old Nobel Peace Prize laureate is expected to put stress in her address on the need to amend Burma's 2008 Constitution and her party's plans in the upcoming 2015 General Election.

Meanwhile, Hakha residents complain about the collection of money from them by NLD members for preparing the reception and general expenses during her stay.

A Hakha local told the Chinland Post: "It is a voluntary donation that they [NLD members] ask. But it would have been much better if the town-elders were to do the collection because it would then become a reception organized by the Hakha public rather than the NLD only."

Aung San Suu Kyi has arrived in Kalaymyo, Sagaing Region as the first leg of her trip from 6 to 10 January 2014.

According to media reports, she would leave for Chin State from Kalaymyo tomorrow, spend a night in Tedim town, and continue her journey to Falam on 8 January.

After meeting with her party's members and the public in Falam, she is expected to travel to Hakha on Wednesday.#
